Our Key Projects
From large-scale restoration efforts to innovative technology solutions, our projects are focused on securing a sustainable and prosperous future for eastern North Carolina and the vital coastal resources that support its communities.
Red Drum Satellite Tagging
In collaboration with the NC Division of Marine Fisheries, the Foundation is sponsoring a two-year satellite tagging study. This research focuses on tracking adult Red Drum to gain insights into their stock structure, spawning migrations, and habitat preferences.
Striped Bass Stocking
Working alongside state and federal agencies, the Foundation is stocking more than 3 million Striped Bass annually in the Albemarle Sound, Roanoke River, and Cape Fear River. This restoration project, initiated in 2023, continues through 2025 to enhance spawning potential.
Coastal Fishing Access
Supporting North Carolina’s public access to coastal waters, the Foundation contributes financial assistance for routine maintenance and infrastructure repairs at eight major coastal boating access areas. This partnership with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission began in 2022 and extends through 2025.
Striped Bass Genetic Evaluation
To evaluate the success of the Striped Bass stocking program in the Roanoke River and Albemarle Sound watershed, the Foundation supports a genetic study. By comparing the genetic material of hatchery broodstock to that of juvenile fish sampled from the sound, researchers can assess the effectiveness of the stocking efforts.
